The Communication and Learning Program
Learning New Skills to Manage Challenges after Brain Injury

The Communication and Learning Program (CLP) at the Callier Center for Communication Disorders provides speech, language and cognitive services to survivors of stroke and traumatic brain injury. The program is designed to provide individual and group therapy to people with communication or cognitive deficits. The clinic is located at The University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson. The clinicians are graduate students in The University of Texas at Dallas program in Communication Disorders and are supervised by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. Because the speech therapy program follows the university calendar, student clinicians graduate at the end of each semester and new clinicians begin treatment at the beginning of the following semester.

“Three years ago I couldn’t talk and now I can talk moderately well and this is BECAUSE OF the combination of exercises, reading and talking I get at CLP.”

“It means good speech and good therapy”

“My wife’s initiation and attention has greatly improved. She is even doing housework again.”

“Oh, how we wish we’d known about this program years ago. My daughter has made progress with her speech and the staff is not only knowledgeable, but friendly and accommodating.”

“This program has enriched my daughter’s recovery from a severe head injury. The opportunity to participate in both one-to-one and group sessions has provided worthwhile opportunities to regain self confidence and to develop techniques for improved memory skills.”

“My son has a trauma brain injury. What has been accomplished in the twice a week meetings has added a very important portion to his recovery in both speech and recovering memory.”
