Students
explore the individual from many perspectives, including normal physiological,
cognitive, and social development; information processing capacities that
underlie perception, learning, and decision making; physical, mental or
emotional differences that affect a person's ability to learn, and processes
of communication and disorders of communication. The University of Texas

majors in Cognitive Science, Psychology, and Speech-Language Pathology

Course Information
Speech-Language
Pathology and Audiology:
In this program students study human speech, language, and hearing, and
the problems which affect these abilities.The program in Speech-Language
Pathology and Audiology is preprofessional in nature with primary emphasis
on the normal processes of speech, hearing, and language, and is designed
to give the student the background that is required in order to enter
graduate programs in communication disorders.
The Cognitive Science:
In Cognitive Science the students study human information processing --
perception, memory, thought, and decision making-- from a perspective
that emphasizes computer-based neural network models of those processes
in brain and behavior.
The program
in Cognitive Science provides training in the study of human information
processing as preparation for employment fields emphasizing computer applications
in those areas, and for graduate training in Programs such as that in
Applied Cognition and Neuroscience.
Psychology:
In Psychology, students explore how people perceive, learn, feel,
think, and interact with others.The Psychology program provides basic
training in the study of mind and behavior as preparation for graduate
training in psycholgy or related fields, as well as providing courses
that may be relevant to employment in a variety of fields.

The
Accelerate Plan of Study
Students with strong academic records who intend to pursue a master's
degree in Communication Disorders at U.T.Dallas may consider an accelerated
undergraduate-graduate plan of study. Students who elect the accelerated
plan must maintain a 3.0 grade point average. The accelerated plan makes
it possible for full time students to complete junior, senior, and graduate
training in three years including two summers.
Teacher
Certification
The school provides opportunities for students to complete Texas Teacher
Certification requirements in Speech and Hearing Therapy. Students who
wish to be certified should consult the Office of Teacher Education for
specific requirements as soon as possible after formal admission to the
